Surfaces is my newest series of abstract paintings. Every painting is composed of many levels of color and texture each affecting the next. As in our lives, we pass through many levels of understanding and insight, the same is true with a painting. The many levels of the painting create a refined and simple surface which becomes the essence of the work.

My fascination with painting, color and texture began as a child and was encouraged throughout my education. In addition to my abstract work, I have studied Impressionism and love to paint en plein air.

Early in my career I was fortunate enough to become involved with the Dallas Civic Ballet in costume design and production. It was here that I began to appreciate the many levels necessary to accomplish a finished work whether a performance or a painting. My other studies include:
The University of Washington
The University of Puget Sound
The School of Light and Color-Fair Oaks CA
The Meadows School of Art, SMU, Dallas TX

My work has been shown throughout the United States and Europe and is owned by numerous corporations and private collectors. (References gladly provided upon request)

My paintings are executed in oils and mixed media on deep gallery wrapped canvases. ( The painting extends to the sides so no further frame is required.) They are painted with a painting knife rather than a brush. Many levels of color are applied some show through and others are carved out to reveal layers below. Combining the various shapes of canvases provides increased dimensional interest in the surface. I derive most of my color insights from nature and as with the Impressionists mix many of my colors on the canvas itself.

Today I am fortunate enough to divide my painting time between the Dallas Metroplex and the natural beauty of Sedona, Arizona. Additional travels allow me to continue to paint en plein air and to be inspired by the differences in light and color in various environments. Color notes made on sight are always of assistance in my studio work and the development of new Surfaces.
