Color, to me, is the most captivating component in all paintings. It can be mesmerizing, or exhilarating , mindful or total madness. Combined with various partners such are texture, layering or translucence it becomes a chameleon but its impact on our emotions remains. My paintings combine color with other elements such as carving and layering which allows many colors to show through. I incorporate some of the same techniques as the Impressionist painters—painting exclusively with a painting knife rather than a brush and mixing many of my colors on the canvas itself. I continually strive to create an intriguing surface that invites the viewer to experience a painting as well as to see it.
